Center for Healthy Sex presents a lecture by Rick Hupp, MFT: "I Can't Believe You Said That! Why Couples Fight, and Why This Lecture Probably Won't Help" "The Sex Experts" is a monthly professional lectures series for sex therapists and specialists to workshop and refine new material that they've been working with in an informal setting before their peers. Any particular statements expressed herein represent the views of the presenter(s) only, but not necessarily the perspective of Center for Healthy Sex (CHS). With this lecture series, CHS intends to explore important issues and encourage conversation within the therapeutic community, as well as provide a platform to emerging voices. Lecture Description: Join Rick Hupp, LMFT as he playfully explores what makes couples work so challenging, and shares key concepts and strategies to be aware of when stepping into the realm of conflict management. Just because two people love each other doesn't mean they know how to take care of each other, and very often the more two people count on each other the worse it gets. By sharing proven techniques he's gathered by studying a variety of modern psychobiological therapeutic approaches, he hopes to be informative and entertaining as he explains: • Why it is so difficult to stay calm during arguments • Why a good memory is a bad thing • What it means to fight fair for faster repair • What the difference is between pair bonding and secure functioning • How a social contract can serve as a universal treatment plan for any couple. Whether your are a couples therapist or just someone who wants to know more about how your automatic brain might work against you when wanting comfort in relationship, this lecture is for you. And because our brains are so automatic, it probably won't help. Rick Hupp, LMFT is a Clinical Associate at Center for Healthy Sex specializing in relationships, trauma healing and sex addiction.
